One of the most touching and intricate pieces I’ve ever had the joy of offering: a rare 18k gold memorial ring made in Stockholm in 1843. This beauty is steeped in history and sentiment, created in the height of the Romantic era when symbolism, mourning, and memory were woven into every scroll and flourish.
The craftsmanship here is astounding. Her deeply engraved band is adorned with volutes, scrollwork, and stylized natural motifs, all culminating in a shell-like crown motif above a discreet little hinged compartment and yes, the ring opens. This hidden compartments was used to carry a lock of hair, a note, or a relic from a beloved person, and while this one is now empty, you can feel the weight of its emotional past.
Despite being over 180 years old, the detailing is still crisp and tactile. Compartment still functions as the day it was made, and she has clearly been treasured, not worn a lot.
